Intel Corp. announced an update on the design of mobile Atom processor hers, Monday (05/06/2013). In the new microarchitecture codenamed Silvermont will be new challengers to the Qualcomm mobile processor lineup brings increased performance and lower power consumption.

Intel chips dominate the PC industry, but the company is starting to get in the mobile industry, such as smartphones and tablet devices. Currently the mobile device industry is still dominated by chips from Qualcomm.
According to Perlmutter, Silvermont offers up to 3x the performance, as well as lower energy consumption up to 5x higher than current chips.
